the concert after crops (2011)

performance, sound: Krzysztof Kaliski, The Czartoryski Museum, Kraków

The performance expressed my reaction to the space I encountered. The space that is semantically decomposed because of the situation of the temporary absence of the museum collection. The empty space of the museum, with traces of dust on the walls that mark the frames of the paintings that used to hang there, with the woodblock floor bulging because of dampness, the broken seals on the door brought about fear – horror vacui, and built a new space, a space of emptiness as a place for the casual movement of sound. During about a one-hour-long performance, by tearing off woodblocks, dropping them down, shuffling them, I filled one of the museum rooms with a thick atmosphere of sounds taken out of the “uncovered” museum architecture.
