13 holy girls (2005)

a set of 13 lightboxes, 13(40x27x12)

It is an installation of thirteen figures that refer to the medieval iconography of Catholic saint women. The artist portrays herself placing her figure in a still pose, on the photographic background used in popular bourgeois photo studios, with an “attribute” in her hands that alludes to each saint’s symbol which takes the form of sweet baked goods, drinks, jellies or whipped cream. The figures of “saints bring to mind hostesses or girls that advertise and encourage to eating sweets. This way the artist suggests contemporary interpretation of “women’s sacrifice”, building at the same time a code of gestures that can form the ritual of “sanctifying”.
